Is it Natural to Lose Muscle?

It’s expected that adults age 30 and up lose three to eight percent of their lean body mass (muscle) every decade. That is, if there isn’t any intervention. To quote Dr. Rhonda Patrick, “it’s part of the natural sedentary aging process”. Strength, power, and bone mass are also on the decline. Fortunately we can protect ourselves against sarcopenia (loss of muscle) and other ill effects of a sedentary lifestyle.

Engaging in resistance training two to three times per week is a way to counter these sedentary age related changes. Challenging your body with load sufficiently will help to counter muscle loss from “sedentary aging”. You will further improve your outcome through planned recovery, adequate nutritional intake (energy and protein) as well as supplementation.
