Strength Training is Longevity Training
With age, I have begun to understand the impact that strength training has had on my life. I initially used strength training as a tool to boost my performance in sports, but it has become much more than that. I perform daily tasks with little to no effort and confidently lift and carry heavy objects. I regularly engage in physical activities and seek new challenges as I set goals each year, but THERE’S MORE!!!
As research has continued to accumulate around longevity it has become clear that strength training is also a key to living a longer, healthier life! Here’s why:
Stronger Muscles, Stronger Bones: Building muscle through strength training helps maintain muscle mass and bone density as we age. This reduces the risk of fractures and keeps us mobile and independent.
Heart Health Booster: Regular strength training lowers blood pressure, improves cholesterol levels, and supports cardiovascular health, contributing to a longer, healthier heart.
Metabolism: Strength training enhances metabolism, improving insulin sensitivity and glucose management. This helps prevent type 2 diabetes and supports overall metabolic health.
Functional Fitness: By mimicking real-life movements, strength training improves our ability to perform daily tasks like lifting groceries or climbing stairs, ensuring we stay active and capable.
Mind and Mood: Exercise boosts endorphins and reduces stress, anxiety, and depression. Strength training enhances cognitive function and supports mental well-being, promoting a sharper mind and a happier outlook.
Whether you’re lifting weights or doing bodyweight exercises, every rep counts toward a healthier, longer life. Investing in strength training is a deposit that will serve your future self.
