Ditch the “All or Nothing” Approach
The “all or nothing” approach, where success is only deemed acceptable if all conditions are met perfectly, often fails due to its unrealistic and rigid nature. Life rarely presents situations where absolute perfection is attainable, and setting such high standards can lead to paralysis or discouragement. This approach tends to overlook progress and small victories. Consequently, you may become overwhelmed by the pressure to achieve perfection and you may give up entirely if you perceive any deviation from the ideal outcome.
Additionally, the all or nothing mentality can hinder collaboration and innovation, as you may fear the consequences of not meeting impossibly high standards. Flexibility and adaptability are mandatory when navigating the complexities of life, and embracing a more nuanced perspective that acknowledges incremental progress can lead to more sustainable and fulfilling results.
When it comes to your fitness journey adopt the “best I can do today” approach. Accept that it will NEVER be perfect. If the best you can do today is taking the stairs, making your lunch or taking a 20 minute nap in your car before an appointment, good job. Sometimes sh*t happens and that’s okay. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other.
