There is No Exercise Pill
The benefits of vigorous activity for health span is well well documented. It is the ONE thing that everyone can do that will decrease your all cause mortality rate by a SIGNIFICANT number (that number varies based on exercise type and dosage). People WANT to live well. Then why doesn’t everyone want to exercise?
…because it’s hard. There is NO EXERCISE PILL 💊
It’s effort, and it has to be done regularly. Consistency + Time is a simple equation, but it is NOT easy to do. So what should you do? Here are few strategies that have worked for me:
1️⃣ Set Clear Goals: Define specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) fitness goals. Having clear objectives provides motivation and direction, helping you stay consistent with your exercise routine.
2️⃣ Establish a Routine: Incorporate exercise into your daily or weekly schedule, treating it like any other important appointment. Consistency breeds habit, so committing to regular workout times helps reinforce the behavior.
3️⃣ Find Enjoyable Activities: Choose exercises and activities you genuinely enjoy. Whether it’s running, biking, hiking, swimming, or lifting weights, finding pleasure in your workouts increases the likelihood of sticking with them over the long term. Variety can also prevent boredom and keep your routine engaging.
I’m not trying to be dramatic, but if you haven’t started on a fitness routine you NEED to. In the long run it will be worth everything you put in. You can’t put a price on longevity, independence, and joy of life.
ACT NOW, but that doesn’t mean you need to start with a commitment that unfathomable. Build from the smallest amount you can maintain. Learn to appreciate your exercise routine not just for what it will do for you later but for how it makes you feel now. “It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end.”
