We are all capable of hard things.
Sometimes I take it for granted that I am able bodied. I pride myself in being ready for most physical competitions in eight weeks or less. I maintain a relatively high level of fitness by regularly participating in strength and endurance training… but it’s NOT EASY.
Health is a priority, and a lot of effort goes into making sure that I am keeping a good balance. It is intentional and practiced daily. It has become routine and is no less easy than it is hard. It has become part of who I am. I have been fortunate to be exposed to good health practices and physical activity early in life (thanks Mom and Dad) and I’ve continued down that path.
While my focus is doing things you start to become what you do. My body is adapted to run, sprint, swim, mountain bike, lift heavy things, etc. You are what you practice, and I like the way I feel and look. If you practice on the couch watching streaming TV or scrolling on your phone you will become adapted to those activities in a similar way.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy watching TV and playing video games but they are rarely the priority. It’s no harder to go to the gym than it is to sit and watch a show. You will probably feel tired regardless of which activity you choose, but choosing a form of vigorous activity is going to give back.
We are all equal and capable. It starts with believing that you CAN, taking action and then being consistent. Practice daily. Health is for life.
